Natus Instructions

Launch & Log In

Power on the workstation, launch the Natus NeuroWorks app, and log in with your secure credentials.

Open Patient Study

Navigate to the Patient Studies list or use the search function to locate a record. Then select the desired EEG study.

Configure Display

Select the bipolar montage Bipolar LT over RT and adjust display settings: Sensitivity 7 μV, Time base 30 mm/sec, and Filters (High 70 Hz, Low 1 Hz).

Analyze the EEG

Scroll through the recording to inspect waveforms. Use built-in tools to assess amplitude, frequency, and add annotations.

Annotate Events

Place event markers by clicking the designated buttons at the top of the screen.

Create EEG Report

After review, open Epic's reporting interface, generate a new report, and pend the note for review.

Persyst Instructions

Launch Persyst

Once your EEG study is open go to Analysis and ensure Persyst (toolbar) is checked

Locate the Persyst toolbar as pictured below. If using two screens, grab the toolbar and drag it to the second screen.

Configure Panel Size

Check that "Comprehensive" is selected. Adjust display size by grabbing the bottom right corner to expand the panel.

Rhythmicity Spectrogram

The rhythmicity spectrogram in Persyst shows rhythmic bursts and variations across frequency bands, helping us quickly spot rhythmic activity linked to seizures.

FFT Spectrogram

The FFT spectrogram in Persyst breaks the EEG signal into its frequency components over time, revealing transient power shifts where warm colors like red and orange highlight high power bursts—often linked to epileptic activity—while cool blues and greens indicate lower power levels.

Asymmetry and aEEG

The Asymmetry panel in Persyst uses color contrasts (left blue and right red) to reveal lateral differences in EEG power between hemispheres sorted from delta to gamma frequency on the Y axis. The aEEG panel compresses long-term amplitude trends into a waveform, together providing a quick visual summary of focal imbalances and overall brain activity.

ADR

The ADR panel quantifies the balance between alpha and delta waves, offering a visual metric where higher ratios indicate normal cortical function and lower ratios suggest pathological slowing; in subarachnoid hemorrhage, it serves to detect early signs of delayed ischemia.
